Delta Dorsch

Delta Dorsch (26 March 1915 to 28 January 2011), born Delta M. Jackson in Frederiksted on St. Croix, was an educator, storyteller and preserver of the cultural history of the United States Virgin Islands. One of the first generation of women from St. Croix to finish high school, she earned a degree in education from Central Michigan University, a master's degree from New York University in 1951 and a doctorate in school administration from Columbia University, and studied at the University of London and the University of Heidelberg. She taught for thirty-eight years in the Virgin Islands school system and also taught at the University of the Virgin Islands, and from 1977 to 1982 served the Department of Education as deputy commissioner of curriculum. She served on the Commission on the Preservation of Virgin Islands Culture, collected folk tales, and wrote The Role of the Storyteller in the Preservation of Virgin Islands Culture (1999).
