American developmental psychologist, the Hobbs Research Professor of Cognition and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a senior director of Harvard's Project Zero research group. His 1983 theory of multiple intelligences challenged the idea of a single measurable intelligence, arguing instead for a plurality of relatively independent cognitive capacities, and has been widely influential, and widely debated, in curriculum and assessment design since.
