Michael Fullan

Michael Fullan is a Canadian educational researcher born in 1940 in Toronto, Ontario, who earned his doctorate in sociology from the University of Toronto in 1969. He served as dean of the University of Toronto's Faculty of Education beginning in 1988, continuing in that role after its 1996 merger with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, and stepped down in 2003 as Professor Emeritus. Fullan built his reputation as a leading authority on educational reform and change management, consulting widely with school districts, teacher groups, research institutes and governments on how large systems can improve teaching and learning. His research and writing address school leadership, systemic change and the link between teacher morale and student achievement. In 2012 he was appointed to the Order of Canada in recognition of his contributions to education reform as a scholar, teacher, writer and government adviser.
