The Decroly Method is a child-centered pedagogy developed by Belgian physician and educator Ovide Decroly in the early twentieth century, organizing the curriculum around a small number of broad centers of interest, such as food, shelter and defense against danger, that draw on a child's own needs rather than dividing the school day into separate subjects. Instruction proceeds through observation, association and expression, and the method remains influential in Belgian and French early education.
