Stan Deno

Stanley Lynn Deno, known as Stan Deno, was an American educational psychologist and professor of educational psychology at the University of Minnesota, where he directed the Special Education Program. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1954, took a B.A. at St. Olaf College in 1958 and a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota in 1965. His doctoral dissertation, completed under the advisor D. C. Neale, was titled Multiple Discrimination Learning as a Function of Conceptual Similarity Among Picture and Word Stimuli. He held affiliations with the University of Minnesota and the University of Delaware and was a Fulbright Scholar in Taiwan in 1982 and 1983. Russell Skiba is counted among his notable students. Deno died on October 12, 2016, and the University of Minnesota gave him its Outstanding Achievement Award posthumously in 2017.
