Susan Stryker

Susan Stryker, born in 1961, is an American professor, historian, author, filmmaker and theorist whose academic career has centered on gender and human sexuality, with a specialization in transgender studies and history. She earned a PhD in United States history from the University of California, Berkeley in 1992, then served as executive director of the GLBT Historical Society in San Francisco from 1999 to 2003 and held visiting professorships at Harvard University, the University of California, Santa Cruz and Simon Fraser University. She was hired with tenure at Indiana University before moving to the University of Arizona in 2011, where in 2013 she established the Transgender Studies Initiative, later serving as professor of gender and women's studies and director of the university's Institute for LGBT Studies before becoming professor emerita.
