Ted Wragg

Edward Conrad Wragg, known as Ted Wragg, was a British educationalist who spent more than two decades as professor of education at the University of Exeter, from 1978 until 2003, and continued as emeritus professor until his death. Born in 1938, he earlier taught languages in secondary schools and held a professorship at the University of Nottingham from 1973 to 1978. His research examined classroom teaching methods, curriculum assessment, and how teachers are evaluated, and he edited the journal Research Papers in Education from 1986 onward while authoring more than 50 books on education. Wragg remained a familiar voice in British public life through regular columns in the Times Educational Supplement and The Guardian, where he argued for creativity and compassion in schools against narrowly utilitarian education policy. He continued classroom teaching throughout his academic career, and the annual Ted Wragg Teaching Award for lifetime achievement honors his memory.
