Universities in Latin America and the Caribbean

A higher education institution located in Mexico, Central America, South America or the Caribbean, gathered under the UN geoscheme's own Latin America and the Caribbean region, which by definition includes Mexico even though Mexico sits geographically within the North American continent. This group spans institutions with roots in colonial-era royal charters through to modern national universities, and it is kept distinct from Northern America, the geoscheme's separate region reserved for the United States and Canada alone.
