Bryn Mawr College is a private women's liberal arts college in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in the Philadelphia suburbs, founded as a Quaker institution in 1885 and largely funded through the bequest of Joseph W. Taylor, with James Rhoads serving as its first president. It is one of the Seven Sisters and was one of the first women's colleges in the United States to offer graduate education through a PhD; by 1893 it had become non-denominational. The college enrolls about 1,350 undergraduate and 450 graduate students, with the graduate school coeducational while the undergraduate program remains women-focused.
