American chemistry teacher who, with colleague Jonathan Bergmann at Woodland Park High School in Colorado, co-developed the flipped classroom model starting in 2006, proposing that lectures be recorded for students to watch outside class so class time could go to interactive exercises and lab work. Sams received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
